Lois Lowry’s Anastasia Krupnik Adapted by Meryl Friedman 2012-2013 Family Series This opinionated and imaginative 10-year old gives us an outrageously funny perspective on finding herself. January 12 – February 17, 2013 Meet Anastasia, a precocious and imaginative 10-year-old who gives us her outrageously funny perspective on bad grades, mean teachers, and sixth-grade boys as she braves the storms of tween life. Her poor, frazzled parents are about to have another baby—a BOY of all things— and Anastasia’s quirky, wacky world will change forever. Yet love and hilarity abound in this heart-warming, quirky comedy for the young and young at heart. Though author Lois Lowry has earned Newberry Medals for her more serious children’s literature Number the Stars and The Giver, she has also written several lighter, more humorous novels including her Anastasia series. Anastasia Krupnik was published in 1979 as the first book of eight relating the life and times of her title character, and thrives today as a cherished, provocative take on a young girl “just trying to grow up.” Meryl Friedman’s light-hearted adaption of Lowry’s beloved book matches B Street’s unique, off-beat humor well and will make a delightful winter treat for the family. Lois Lowry’s Anastasia Krupnik is the second show of B Street’s 2012-2013 Family Series.
