ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS – By Richard Bean

This wild adaptation of Servant of Two Masters took the world by storm in 2011. Winning multiple awards in England and America, this gut busting play tells the story of out-of-work skiffle player Francis Henshall, who becomes separately employed by two men. As Francis desperately tries to keep the men from meeting and learning the truth about his double employment, he spins various plates in the air to hilarious results. A comic romp in the tradition of B Street Theatre’s biggest hits.

In this incendiary comic drama, the world of high finance is illuminated in a blisteringly funny and brutally honest way. Rick Hannel, the CEO of an enormous private equity firm, needs a deal to come through to save him from a PR disaster. Thankfully Seth, one of his partners has the perfect investment in the form of a small luggage company ready to grow. But Jenny, Rick’s other partner has her own plan to right the ship. With crackling dialogue, Dry Powder will have you on the edge of your seat.

In this quietly gripping play, we meet Darja, a Polish immigrant living in New Jersey. With a steely determination, Darja makes her way in this foreign world and fights for the things she loves, most notably her son. In this stitch-in-your-side funny play, Casey is an Elvis impersonator working in a Florida Panhandle bar. But when his poorly attended Elvis show is cancelled for the more popular drag queen performers, Casey is despondent. His girlfriend is pregnant and the rent check’s bounced. But to his rescue come Tracy Mills and Miss Anorexia Nervosa who instruct Casey on the finer points of drag performance. With warmth and good will, The Legend Of Georgia McBride will leave you giddy.

The return of this hilarious adaptation of Dickens’ classic story, Ebeneezer Scrooge has had enough of his yearly redemption and does everything he can to bust out of it. All the familiar characters are present as he fights his way through the night, providing fodder for his disdain but also pushing him, reluctantly to his absolution. A crowd pleasing tradition!

As a Core Member of the National New Play Network, B Street remains committed to workshopping and producing new works. They will feature the NNPN Rolling World Premiere of Ken Weitzman’s Halftime with Don in their upstairs venue during September of 2018.
When it opens in February 2018, The Sofia will be home to B Street Theatre’s Mainstage (naming opportunity available) and the Sutter Theatre for Children – California’s first year-round, professional theatre for children. In the same spirit of community from which B Street Theatre was born, Sutter Theatre will open its doors to host the performances and events of local artists, community organizations, and visiting acts. In effect, this landmark facility will become an entertainment hub for all of Sacramento, where locals and tourists alike can see theatre, comedy, dance, or musical acts in an intimate, professional space every night of the year. In addition, its large public lobby, classrooms, open-air courtyard, and on-site restaurant make The Sofia a true destination.
