Kids Summer Acting Classes

Summer Acting Program 2018

Has your child or teen caught the acting bug?

B Street Theatre announces our Summer Acting Program for 2018, a series of workshops for kids of all ages and skill levels. Our Summer Acting Program offers students a fun, exciting, and creative environment from professional instructors active in the fields of theatre, improvisation, and acting instruction. Each program lasts up to two weeks and is led by B Street veteran Kurt Johnson. Young performers learn the fundamental tools needed to develop their physical, vocal, and emotional range in a way that is both fun and playful. Concepts are presented through a series of acting exercises, theatre games, improvisation, rehearsal process, and performance. Every program concludes with a final showcase production where our young actors show off everything they’ve learned. Come and join the fun!

Summer Program FAQ

Is there class on the weekend?

Regular class sessions are taught Monday-Friday with no class on the weekend. We will have a final dress rehearsal and performances on the last Saturday for many of the workshops however. WE will meet in the afternoon on the day of the showcase for a final dress rehearsal, have a short diner break, and then perform twice for friends and family. We will be performing the final showcase twice to accommodate all those who want to attend.

Why does the camp end on a Monday?

Program sessions have a FINAL SHOWCASE on the last Monday of class. The B Street Theatre has a very busy performance schedule and Monday evening is one of the few times when the stage is consistently available. Note: we will meet in the afternoon (approx. 3:30 pm) for a final dress rehearsal and FINAL SHOWCASE that evening. We will NOT MEET IN THE MORNING on the last day of class.

Is lunch provided?

Each student should BRING A BAG LUNCH. We will eat around noon each day in the courtyard. We will also have a snack break in the morning. A SNACK WILL BE PROVIDED by the B Street Theatre.

What will they learn?

Students will be exposed to a variety of theatrical training methods: skills based exercises, improvisation, scene-study, physical and vocal warm-ups, rehearsal techniques, memorization, performance in a final showcase, and much more.

When is final showcase?

For the first time most of the B Street Summer Program showcases will take place on Saturday evening. This is a change from the Monday showcase schedule during previous summer programs. The Junior, Teen, and second Youth sessions will all have their showcase performances on the final Saturday. Youth Session #1 (starting on June 18th) will have it’s showcase performance on a Monday evening. Students will need to meet in the early afternoon on the day of the final performance for a dress rehearsal. This will be followed by a short diner break and two showcase performances for friends and family. We perform twice to allow accommodate all the friends an family an opportunity to see the show.

Do we need to audition?

Auditions are not required at the Studio for Young Actors Summer Program. All skill levels welcome. We make an effort to pair students appropriately in regards to age and skill level.

Who will teach the classes?

Classes will be taught by B Street Theatre regular Kurt Johnson. Depending on class size, he will have the assistance of other local, professional actors/teachers.

What if I need to cancel? Is class registration non-refundable?

There is a $25.00 processing fee for all cancellations. There are NO refunds after June 1st.
