Fast Forward

Fast Forward highlights the strength and innovation as it features the future of ballet. Three distinct works by highly acclaimed choreographers showcase ballet’s cutting edge. Sacramento Ballet Artistic Director Amy Seiwert opens the performance seamlessly blending dance with interactive technology developed by software artist Frieder Weiss. The work paints backdrop images matching the dancers’ movement, lending a surreal air to the art. From The San Francisco Chronicle: “Seiwert’s neoclassical vocabulary is seen here at its most elegant.” Val Caniparoli, whose The Bridge was such a poignant hit on Sacramento Ballet’s series last Spring, challenges classical technique and speed with humor and his distinctive choreographic style. Tutto Eccetto il Lavandino, by the way, is Italian for “Everything But the Kitchen Sink.” It’s easy to see why. He also served as guest Choreographic Mentor for Beer and Ballet last season. He will do that again this year. Trey McIntryre, founder of the famous Trey McIntyre Project, explores the iconic sounds of the Fab Four. The Washington Times called A Day in the Life “a thrilling evocation of (the Beatles’) music and its moods.” This Might Be True Choreography: Amy Seiwert Music: Nils Frahm and Anne Müller Utilizing the interactive technology of Frieder Weiss Tutto Eccetto il Lavandino Choreography: Val Caniparoli Music: Antonio Vivaldi A Day in the Life Choreography: Trey McIntrye Music: The Beatles
