Jonathan Stoyanoff, electric bass Miles Davis at 100: The Electric Years

In celebration of Miles Davis’ centennial, the Jonathan Stoyanoff Quartet dives into the groundbreaking music of Miles’ electric period—from roughly 1968 onward.

In the late 1960s, Miles began pushing jazz into entirely new territory, embracing electric instruments and moving toward atmospheric, groove-driven music built on improvisation, texture, dynamics, and freedom. The result was a revolutionary new sound that broke down the boundaries between jazz, rock, funk, and experimental music—and culminated in the landmark Bitches Brew, one of the most influential and genre-defying recordings in jazz history.

This special program will explore music from Miles’ studio and live recordings throughout his electric period, capturing the energy, experimentation, and sheer sonic power that made this era so extraordinary.

Joining the quartet is a powerhouse horn duo: the incredible Jacam Manricks on saxophone and Berklee College of Music alum Thomas Molina on trumpet, taking on the crucial role of channeling Miles’ unmistakable voice.

Expect music that is funky, atmospheric, improvisational, and explosive!
