About Behind the Barre: The highly acclaimed program pairs 7 of CDP's resident choreographers and 17 professional dancers with Sacramento’s most exciting visual artists and musicians for a thrilling multi-media performance. A testament to the power of collaboration, Behind the Barre never fails to leave its artists and audience inspired by what unfolds when different art forms and mediums are combined. The performance features introductory films by longtime CDP collaborator and filmmaker Natalie Manning, giving the audience a glimpse into the collaborative and creative process before seeing each piece.
Behind the Barre also celebrates local makers, artists, and businesses with a Maker's Mart in the lobby before the show and during intermission. Local brews will be provided by Behind the Barre title sponsor New Helvetia Brewing Company with proceeds supporting CDP!
About Capital Dance Project: Launched in 2015, Capital Dance Project (CDP) is an independent collective of professional dancers with a mission to uplift the spirit of the Sacramento community through collaborative, inclusive, and accessible performing arts experiences. CDP fulfills its mission by providing a platform for its resident choreographers to create world premiere works in collaboration with local visual artists and musicians, and by making dance accessible to everyone through community outreach and engagement. CDP represents the fulfillment of its founding members' shared dream to create a uniquely dancer-run company, providing employment for professional dancers and choreographers, as well as the opportunity to develop skillsets in all areas of running the project beyond the stage.
