IN A NUTSHELL: Storytelling Series

Every month, In a Nutshell invites four experienced storytellers from all walks of life to tell a true story LIVE based on intriguing, off-the-beaten-path theme prompts designed to challenge the storytellers to dig deeper and engage audiences with their heads, hearts, and everything in between. At In a Nutshell, audiences can count on a riveting evening of storytelling from experienced storytellers with a diversity of lives-lived.

APRIL 30: "DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD"
Featured Storytellers:

Marga Gomez is the writer/performer of 15 solo plays produced worldwide. Her latest, Spanish Stew, premieres in October at The New Conservatory Theater, SF. In July, Marga performs the roles Lily Tomlin made famous in Jane Wagner's The Search For Signs Of Intelligent Life at the Aurora Theater, Berkeley. Marga has appeared on Comedy Central, LOGO, and HBO’s Comic Relief (at the invitation of Robin Williams, who called her “a Lesbian Lenny Bruce").

Regina Stoops is an award-winning storyteller, comedian, writer, and co-producer of the online storytelling platform Six Feet Apart Productions. Her stories have been heard on the Risk! Podcast, The Moth Grand Slam stage, NPR’s Story Borealis, Unreeling Stories, and the Women's Storytelling Festival. Regina uses storytelling as her weapon of choice to help tackle diversity, adversity, and suburban chaos.

Maryam Moosavi got her start 7 years ago in Sacramento, where she produced shows like Living Room Live and Comedy in the Park. Today, she is a regular at Laughs Unlimited and Punchline and performs all over the Bay. She maintains a grocery store job while pursuing comedy at night, and her immigrant parents are very proud of her.

Beau Ryder Davis is a comedian and storyteller based in Oakland, California. He is an 8-time Moth Story Slam winner, Bay Area Moth GrandSLAM winner, and has appeared on the nationally syndicated Moth Radio Hour. He’s currently working on a show about growing up in the rural mountain town of Hazard, Kentucky, which was rated “the least happy town in America” in 2008 by the esteemed Dr. Oz TV show. He promises this show is funny and not as sad as Hazard.

In a Nutshell is hosted and curated by storytelling comedian Keith Lowell Jensen, book editor Amy Bee, and author Aaron Carnes, three friends who want nothing more than to give humans laughter, insight, and the full spectrum of emotion from the absolute best live storytellers in the universe — that’s all. Come and get what you need, human! You deserve to connect, reflect, and celebrate the power of live storytelling. You are welcome here!
