ART SUBMISSION SELECTION:

This year's festival art selection was created by Tasha Nichole King!

We Are All Connected

Artwork Title: We Are All Connected

Artwork Description: This 36x48 mixed media painting, born during Sac Open Studios 2021, is a vibrant celebration of community, collaboration, and collective healing. Guests were invited to contribute words, symbols, brushstrokes, and intentions—each mark representing a unique energy, voice, and presence. As the artist, I intuitively wove these offerings together into a unified expression of connection, honoring the beautiful complexity and interdependence of humanity.

Artist Statement: My art is a portal—a living, breathing reflection of energy, emotion, and transformation. Through intuitive painting and movement, I channel the unseen, translating feeling into form, rhythm into color, and spirit into texture. Our emotions and experiences are deeply embedded in our cellular memory. My art dares to extract those emotions, awaken the senses and stir the soul to heal and be free. My creative practice is rooted in the belief that art is a vehicle for healing, self-inquiry, and deep connection. My work invites viewers to explore their own inner landscapes. It is an offering—a mirror of the collective energy we share, an opportunity for reflection, release, and renewal. My mission is to inspire, awaken, and remind us all that art is not separate from life—it is life, moving, evolving, and illuminating the path back to our true selves.

"We Are All Connected" speaks to the spirit of Juneteenth—freedom, resilience, and the ongoing journey of liberation. Just as Juneteenth honors the delayed yet powerful truth of emancipation and the generations that have carried its weight and wisdom, this piece holds space for every soul who added their mark. Together, we remember that freedom is not just a moment in history but a living, evolving process made real through collective effort, unity, and expression.

The layered blues, sacred symbols, ancestral echoes, and the bold emergence of the word “Connected” mirror the emotional depth and sacred celebration that Juneteenth represents. This work is not just a painting—it’s a living archive of energy, a tribute to shared humanity, and a visual embodiment of hope and liberation.
