New Play Brunch – IF THE WORLD CAME TO AN END
By Hunter Hoffman
IF THE WORLD CAME TO AN END is a one-man comedy-horror musical written and performed by Hunter Hoffman, created in collaboration with M. Graham Smith. The show follows Darren, a down-on-his-luck musician who arrives to play a gig in a coffee shop basement, only to discover he may be playing through the apocalypse. When his on-again/off-again, conspiracy-theorist girlfriend doesn’t show up, a phone call reveals her reason. The world is, in fact, coming to an end. As Darren performs and interacts with the audience, her “theories” begin unfolding in real time. Alarms blare. Power surges. Escape becomes impossible. The basement transforms into a bunker, trapping Darren and the audience together as the end approaches.
Blurring the line between performer and spectator, the show changes every night as Darren turns to the audience for guidance. Questions on love, regret, and the lives we imagine living but never quite do. Shaped by the people in the room and the choices they make, If the World Came to an End invites audiences to laugh through the terror while confronting what they themselves might confess, choose, or change if the end were truly here, with their guide being a jilted singer-songwriter with a guitar, a microphone, and a lot of emotional baggage.
