Jake Heggie’s Three Decembers – an intimate chamber opera that follows Broadway star Madeline Mitchell and her two adult children, Bea and Charlie, across three Decembers—1986, 1996, and 2006. As the years pass, the family grapples with old secrets, personal loss, and the emotional distance left by Madeline’s fame.

With a heartfelt libretto by Gene Scheer, based on a play by Terrence McNally, and a lyrical score by Heggie, Three Decembers is a moving exploration of family, identity, and the ties that endure. Presented in English, this poignant opera brings raw emotion and soaring music to a story that feels achingly familiar.
